Workshop facilitator
I'm a Computer Science student at UBC, and I run free cyber safety workshops for community groups across the Vancovuer.
Most cybersecurity advice aimed at the public is either too technical to act on or built to frighten people into buying something. Neither helps. I started these workshops because the people most affected by scams — seniors, newcomers, students, small nonprofits — are usually the ones with the least access to straightforward guidance.
Sessions are practical and conversational. We work through real examples, talk about what actually happens, and leave people with a few habits worth keeping. Nobody is made to feel foolish for having clicked something.
How these workshops run
These apply to every session, for every audience, regardless of who is asking.

Demonstrations show how attackers think so people recognise the pattern. No harmful exploitation steps or offensive techniques are taught, to any audience.
This is a non-commercial project. There is no paid tier, no upsell, and no service being pitched at the end of a session.
People who have already been scammed are usually the ones who most need to ask questions. Sessions stay blame-free so they actually do.
Every tool or technique shown is explained in plain language, and the reasoning behind advice is always given rather than asserted.
Workshops teach the white-hat approach: if you find a vulnerability, report it — do not exploit it.

Foundations in C, Python, and SQL covering memory management and algorithmic efficiency, plus secure coding principles that prevent common exploits such as buffer overflows and SQL injection.
Volunteering
Youth ambassador work, event support at South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, and a guest lecture at Langara College. These shaped the workshop style: clear, respectful, practical, and beginner-friendly.
